Hot Chocolate Toddy
A traditional Hot Chocolate recipe turned into a winter-warming Toddy – although the Hot Toddy can be made using a good quality chocolate powder, using real chocolate makes it far richer.
Hot Chocolate Toddy Recipe
Makes 1 Mug: As a measure pour the cold milk into the mug you are going to use (up to an inch below, not to the top) and then pour into the saucepan to heat. Do this for as many mugs as you are going to make.
Recipe Ingredients
- 50g of grated good quality chocolate (leaving some for a garnish)
- a mug of full fat milk
- a single shot of either rum, brandy or whisky (15ml)
- 1 tsp of clear honey
- 1 tsp sugar
- half a cinnamon stick
- Optional – add some fresh whipped cream and a few small marshmallows
Recipe Method:
Add a mug full of milk into a saucepan and slowly heat through till just under a simmer. Add the chocolate and stir until the chocolate is melted into the milk. Add in a teaspoon of clear honey, a teaspoon of sugar, and half a cinnamon stick. Stir and reduce the heat before adding in a shot of alcohol (rum, brandy or whisky is best). After a few minutes on a low heat remove the cinnamon stick, and pour the mixture into the mug. Optionally add on top a good dollop of whipped cream and a few marshmallows, use some grated chocolate to garnish.
