A traditional Large Half-Moon Griddle, from an original 170 year old design, which is used to bake authentic and historic regional British and Irish recipes on.
A Large Traditional Griddle (15 inch / 38 cm diameter and 6mm thick) these large griddles are used to bake authentic regional recipes on, such as flat breads, drop scones, potato cakes, pies, pancakes and pikelets, muffins, shortbread, boxty, breads, tarts and oat biscuits etc. Note: the half-moon shaped handle does fold flat for easy storage. This is the larger version of the traditional half-moon griddle for those wanting to bake more items at once or to make the larger historic recipe breads and pancakes.
See our fantastic large traditional recipe section for inspiration – collected by Oakden. Traditional Recipes link.
Please see ‘How To Season Your Griddle‘ for information on caring for this item.
Being made to a traditional thickness (6mm) Oakden griddles are far more heavy-weight and robust than the cheap copies other outlets sell; these inferior, thin copies are no better than using a cheap frying pan which will buckle under the heat (creating hot spots) and are not at all suitable for the traditional style of cooking that most traditional recipes call for. An Oakden griddle will last many lifetimes of use and it will retain and radiate the heat necessary (whilst remaining flat) to cook perfectly even the most demanding recipes.
This is a hand-made reproduction, made from an original design dating back over 170 years, and because it is made of a thick steel plate (6mm) it is able to be used on a wide range of modern convection / induction / radiation cookers and fires. It can also be used over an open fire, using a fire dog to sit on.
WEIGHT : 7.5Kg
Note this is a heavy item : due to the weight please use carefully on induction and ceramic hobs.
Heat Source / Cooking Top : This can be used on all Gas or Electric cookers and on both Ceramic or Induction cookers … This is a unique cooking product made here at our workshops at Oakden and it is made of a thick steel plate (which is basically like cast iron, without the brittleness) and so it is able to be used on a very wide range of modern convection / induction / radiation cookers and fires. It can also be used over an open fire, using a fire dog to sit on etc.
