Being made to a traditional thickness (10mm) and weight the Oakden Bakestone is far more robust than the cheaper copies other outlets sell; these inferior, thin copies are no better than using a cheap frying pan which will buckle under the heat (creating hot spots) and are not at all suitable for the traditional style of cooking that most traditional recipes call for. An Oakden bakestone will last many lifetimes of use and it will retain and radiate the heat necessary (whilst remaining flat) to cook perfectly even the most demanding recipes.
This is a hand-made reproduction, made from an original design dating back over 175 years, and because it is made of a thick steel plate it is able to be used on a wide range of modern convection / induction / radiation cookers, and even over an open fire using a fire dog to sit on.
Multipurpose : A Welsh Bakestone can also be used in the oven as a pizza plate. In fact it is a perfect modern Pizza Plate for use in the oven (any oven indoor and outdoor) as it radiates heat evenly and it retains the heat over a long period.

Heat Source / Cooking Top : This can be used on all Gas or Electric cookers and on both Ceramic or Induction cookers … This is a unique cooking product made here at our workshops at Oakden and it is made of a thick steel plate (which is basically like cast iron, without the brittleness) and so it is able to be used on a very wide range of modern convection / induction / radiation cookers and fires. It can also be used over an open fire, using a fire dog to sit on etc.
